COMPLETION

2016

The urgent repair of Pier 2 of the Hawkesbury Rail Bridge required an innovative Design & Construct temporary works solution. Members of our team, whilst at Waterway Constructions, developed the innovative solution during tender and ensured its successful implementation.

A cofferdam was constructed under the live rail bridge to allow the damaged portion of the pier to be inspected and repaired in a dry environment. Due to the low headroom under the bridge, the sheetpiles had to be clutched outside the bridge span, and subsequently lifted as individual panels to form the cofferdam. Due to the poor geotechnical condition, a 2m sand plug was poured inside the cofferdam to provide sufficient toe support and restraint against hydraulic heave.

This project was awarded the 2017 CCF National Award for projects between $2mil - $5mil.
