Heavy rains in Queensland led to huge volumes of water slowly making their way further inland, culminating in the flooding of Cooper Creek in remote north-eastern South Australia. This cut the Birdsville Track, an essential transport route for cattle in the region. The solution - a new barge service that could transport heavy cattle trucks (36m long “road trains”) across the swollen creek.
Reneo was engaged by Maritime Constructions (for the Department of Infrastructure and Transport, SA) as the permanent works engineer for the design of the abutments on either side of the barge crossing.
